Dr. Sara Langston is an accomplished University professor specializing in law, policy and regulations for space operations. With a unique blend of expertise as an international aerospace lawyer, practical ethicist, and U.S. Army veteran, she brings a multifaceted perspective to her field. Her background in technical aviation complements her profound insights into the complexities of space law and policy. As an independent consultant, Dr. Langston offers strategic guidance to government agencies, private industry and academia. Her advisory work focuses on developing national space law and policy, advancing space applications, and navigating the evolving landscape of commercial human spaceflight. Recent contributions include serving as a space law expert to UNOOSA’s Technical Advisory Missions to over 30 nations in the Space Law for Emerging Space Actors initiative.
Dr. Langston brings a uniquely interdisciplinary background to her work, with academic credentials that reflect the breadth of her expertise. She holds a Ph.D. in the History and Philosophy of Science, where her research explored ELSI (ethical, legal, and social implications) issues related to human spaceflight. In addition, she earned a J.D. with a specialization in Public International Law and an LL.M. in Air and Space Law, publishing her thesis on the comparative regulation of commercial suborbital spaceflight. Additionally, she earned a Space Studies Certificate in Physical Sciences from the International Space University, and commenced her private pilot training, acquiring over 19hours of flight time.
Her contributions to the space field extend beyond consulting and academia. Dr. Langston served as a UNOOSA Space4Women Mentor, and she is a member of the International Institute of Space Law, the Royal Aeronautical Society, and holds active status with the New York and District of Columbia Attorney Bars.
